Ciara’s Story

Ciara was diagnosed with breast cancer aged 35, 9 months after giving birth to her beautiful daughter, Lily. Her typical pregnancy/postpartum symptoms initially masked the signs of cancer, leading to a delayed diagnosis when Ciara's tumour had already grown to 10cm and spread to her lymph nodes. Ciara underwent aggressive treatment of chemotherapy, surgery, radiotherapy, hormone therapy and targeted drugs. Thankfully, Ciara’s initial treatment was a success, but she will need ongoing treatment to reduce chances of reoccurrence.

Ciara found support during her treatment, and continues to do so, from Mummy’s Star, the only charity in the UK and Ireland dedicated to supporting women and birthing people who are diagnosed with cancer in or around pregnancy. Your donation means mums and families can reach out to Mummy's Star and receive their specialised support, just like Ciara did. Specialised support includes emotional support for mums and parents, connecting families with others in a similar position, offering small grants to relieve the financial burden of cancer, supporting partners and family, promoting awareness, and providing training for healthcare professionals and students in cancer and pregnancy.
