I’m climbing to Everest Base Camp. For my brother. For SAMM. For every family shattered by violence.

On May 30th, it will be 10 years since my brother Michael was taken from us by the heinous act of another.

But this year also marks 10 years of support from SAMM National — and honestly, I don’t think I’d be here if it wasn't for them and their support.

Knowing I was going to receive those weekly calls, going to my first retreat and attending my first Christmas service made such a positive difference and impact on me. 

In those first devastating months, SAMM was the lifeline I needed.


– The weekly support calls.


– My first retreat.

– That first Christmas service.

They helped me carry the grief. They still do.

Even a decade on, I’m still benefitting from being in the SAMM community. I attended another retreat this year—being in that safe, non-judgmental space where I can open up, cry, laugh, really helps.

So this November, I’ll be flying into Kathmandu to take on Everest Base Camp.

I’m doing it in memory of my brother Michael.
And I’m doing it to raise money and awareness for SAMM National, so they can continue their life-changing work for others like me — families broken by unimaginable loss.

I can never thank the team at SAMM and its members, enough. But I hope this climb helps.
