Story
We are early career researchers at the Dementia Research Centre, UCL, raising money for a Centre for Rare Dementia Support. So without further ado, meet the team!
Millie
Hi everyone! I'm Millie, a Research Assistant in the Fox lab at the Dementia Research Centre. Our labs focus is to accelerate the transition of research, including therapies, from bench to bedside. During my time in the Fox lab, I have had the opportunity to meet many incredible, inspiring individuals and families living with rare dementia. Fundraising for a Centre for Rare Dementia Support, will bring us one step closer to supporting each and everyone of the individuals affected by dementia.
Sophie
Hey! I am Sophie and I have worked as a research assistant in the Rohrer lab for the last two years. I have helped to coordinate research studies looking specifically at genetic forms of Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) and I am now about to start a PhD in Feb! Throughout my time working on this research, I have had the privilege to meet and work with some of the most incredible people and families living with FTD. This new centre will hopefully provide a wonderful space for these individuals as well as those living with other forms of rare dementia, to go and receive support after attending their research and clinical trials visits.
Katie
Hey! I am Katie and I currently work as a research assistant in the Rohrer lab. I investigate neuroinflammation in genetic forms of Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) and associated clinical trials. In my role, I work with fluid samples kindly given by patients and families affected by FTD. I value the translation of research to patients’ lives and the potential impact research and support services can have on patients’ quality of life. The Rare Dementia Support Centre will hopefully provide a welcome and comforting space for individuals living with FTD, as well as those affected by other rare forms of dementia, to attend and receive support, information and community after taking part in clinical research.
Ben
Eva
Hello! I am Eva and I currently work alongside Sophie, Ben, Millie, and Katie at the Dementia Research Centre. I am part of the team at the Rohrer Lab utilizing digital health technology to better understand the subtle changes that take place in the earliest stages of the rare dementia, Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). Prior to my time at the DRC, I worked as a neuropathologist at UC San Francisco, investigated cellular changes taking places in Alzheimer's Disease. I am fundraising for the Rare Dementia Support Centre to continue to provide the best possible clinical support for people living with dementia and their loved ones.
The Rare Dementia Support Centre will exemplify the best in support for people living with a diagnosis or at risk of an inherited condition and everyone who cares for or about them. The Centre will also pioneer the development of support by promoting research into the experiences of people living with rare dementias (including into the impact of support services), and the bespoke education of families, healthcare and other relevant professionals.
