Story
On 11th October 2026, I’ll be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).
In March 2025, my uncle, Danny, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) at just 39 years old. Watching someone you love face such a devastating illness has been incredibly difficult, especially seeing the impact it has had on him, my aunt Sarah and my two cousins.
MND is a disease that affects the nerves controlling movement. As it progresses, it causes increasing muscle weakness and paralysis, eventually affecting a person’s ability to walk, talk, swallow and breathe. There is currently no cure.
Since Danny’s diagnosis, the MNDA has been there for our family every step of the way. They have provided expert advice, home visits, specialist equipment such as wheelchairs and a stairlift, and practical and emotional support that has made a huge difference during an unimaginably difficult time.
I know this support is only possible because of the generosity of people who donate and fundraise. That’s why I’m taking on this challenge alongside my mum, and my auntie Sarah.
Running a half marathon will be a huge challenge for me, but it feels like a small way to give something back to a charity that has done so much for my family. I also hope to help raise awareness of MND and support the vital research needed to find effective treatments and, one day, a cure.
If you’re able to support me with a donation, no matter how big or small, I’d be incredibly grateful. Every pound raised will help the MNDA continue supporting families like mine and fund research into this cruel disease.
Thank you so much for your kindness, generosity and support.
