Help the Children of Dharavi stay in School!
We all remember the feeling of wide-eyed curiosity, the world being a place of endless possibilities with new things to discover every day. The Primary education we experienced set us up for the best shot at life, but for the children of Mumbai’s Dahavri Slum, education is not a given.
OSCAR International is on a mission to ensure that disadvantaged children remain in education. Education is foundational to economic achievement, social welfare and the ability to give back to one’s community. For the children of Dharavi, these ideals remain aspirational. OSCAR puts it full weight behind them to fight the significant school dropout rates, and equip them with life skills, to ensure that they receive the best chance at success.
So, what tangible effect does OSCAR have on the slum communities? This October, we will be going to Mumbai to volunteer as coaches for the children’s Football Skills Program which actively develops both football skills and essential life skills: confidence; health; interpersonal skills; and critical thinking. At the same time, OSCAR provides an active community to support children to complete their education – with mentors and friends around to encourage learning, they do not have to struggle alone. With the support of community engagement and football, children are given the best shot in life, before even kicking a ball.
To raise funds for the Football Skills Program, we will be undertaking a week long challenge, hiking to the Surya Top summit in the Himalayas, 12900 feet above sea level. This will push our physical limits and test our mental resolve, in solidarity with the children whose livelihood is made of this very fibre of endurance.
And we need your help! Volunteering alone will not solve everything. OSCAR needs your help to support its football skills program, so that children can stay in education and build a brighter future for their communities.
Thank you for your generous contribution.
