Story

Welcome to our Just Giving Page.

Over the next few months, lots of us will be doing a range of challenges to raise money for Pendleside Hospice for our amazing Cheryl Wood.

Chez has stage 4 Cervical cancer in 4 areas of her body, she has unfortunately got to this stage after being constantly ignored over the past 8 months from the very people you expect to care for you in your hour of need. They have given her with Chemo 1-2 years to live, she is not standing for that,. We have just found out she is eligible to be able to have the life-extending immunotherapy drug pembrolizumab (Keytruda®) - the first new addition to NHS treatment for incurable cervical cancer for 14 years. So now we watch and wait to see what effect this has on her.

She is determined she will find a way to battle this and watch her baby grandson Reuben grow up.

Before this Chez was a very active fearless independent woman who enjoyed climbing mountains, skiing, and exploring the world for fun, and now has been to reduced to living in a wheelchair and unable to leave the house alone without support. It’s the biggest battle of her life, but we are all going to lift her up & carry her through it. Chez is gonna fight like hell all the way like only she can. She is already after radiotherapy showing massive determination to try and walk again. Pushing herself every day to take an extra step with a zimmer frame even though she has no feeling in half of her leg.

It’s early days yet, but the team at the hospice have been incredible at getting the support Cheryl needs in such a short space of time. This includes physical therapy, counselling, medication, making the house safe & disabled friendly including trying to get her a stairlift so she can go to bed safely at night and generally supporting her in any way they can. This support started barely 24 hours of the referral going in 🥰

They are going to be an integral part of Cheryl’s fight against cancer 👊🏻💪🏻, and we want to raise as much money for them as we can. Like we have, the hospice has wrapped it’s arms around her and is with her every step of the way!

There will be runs, walks, climbs, heights. Whatever we can do, from the sublime to the ridiculous, some will be tougher than others! Between Cheryl’s friends, family & work mates we want to raise as much money as possible for this truly wonderful place.

First up will be Cheryl’s own sponsored head shave taking place on Saturday 6th May (Coronation Day) at 4pm at the Craven Heifer at Harle Syke. She’s actually been trying to grow her hair for the last 2 years because she wanted hair like Dave Grohl (massive Foos Fan!) and now, before she starts treatment, she wants to do the right thing for those supporting her.

We will keep this page updated with each challenge, and anyone that wants to join us on our adventures, please just message me.

Any donations at all are welcome, please just give what you can, we realise times are tough.
