Story
On August 20th I will be attempting to walk 17 miles with my friend & old Boss Paul Dennington, ( I must point out he’s not old , only 2 years my senior!, ) but he was a previous manager of mine who I had an awful lot of time & respect for in a long ago corporate life at Procter & Gamble. Now is my time to pay back for being that pain in the arse to him, despite my desperate level of fitness I’m gonna give it my best shot, crikey I’m only walking 1 day he’s doing a mammoth 36 day/588 mile walk to raise vital funds for prostate cancer research.
Paul is 4.5 years into a 5-8 year prognosis and is determined to help prevent other men & their families from going through the same journey as him. This epic walk started today from Paul’s birthplace in Newcastle and will finish in Kent where he lives now, on 7th September.
Please donate what you can every penny helps - think of the blisters !!!
Here’s Paul’s story
Prostate Cancer is now the number one diagnosed cancer in UK. 1 in 8 men (1 in 4 if you are black or have family history) are diagnosed in their lifetime. That's 50,000+ mean every year - fathers, husbands, brothers, close friends etc - of whom, like me are caught too late to be cured.
That is why l'm taking on this huge challenge 4.5 years in to a 5-8 year prognosis. Aged 59 and with only circa 10% of my testosterone levels due to my daily treatment this will be extremely tough - but NOT because of my cancer! With the amazing support of my wife in particular, family and friends I want to raise awareness of the cancer, it's risks, drive testing and raise valuable funds to support those going through this terrible experience, to create a screening program and for vital research.
Net I want to help prevent other men and their families from going through the same journey as mine and to give hope to those who already are.
