Story
Thank you for visiting my page :)
So, I'm not a happy runner anymore (thanks to Eve - my lovely little tooter!) but when I saw that the 2024 Great North Run is on my birthday I just had to do this one last trot - for my mum, who came from this NE neck of the woods (as do I, but no-one would ever guess...).
My mum, Jean, died in October 2023 from bowel cancer, after only being diagnosed in April of the same year. Prior to her diagnosis, she did not experience any symptoms & her bowel screening tests always came back negative. Unfortunately, as with all screening tests, the latter are not 100% accurate.
She hated the disease that gave her so much discomfort & sickness, the same disease that took time away from us all - especially Eve.
Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer and second biggest cancer killer in the UK. However, it shouldn't be because it is treatable and curable, especially if diagnosed early.
I really do believe that the cure for cancer is in the near future but this will only be realised with continued research by charities such as Bowel Cancer UK.
Please help me around my last lap by donating to Bowel Cancer UK. Thank you!!!!
