Story
I must be crazy but YET AGAIN I have been given a place to run in the LONDON marathon 2024. After running it in 2021 and raising an amazing amount for CCUK, which helped so many funding opportunities and raising as much awareness as possible I cannot wait to do it over again.
If you know me then you'll know why this is so important and means so much to me to run for Crohn’s and Colitis UK. Having been diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis back in 2013, I didn't understand or truly know what colitis, crohns or Inflammatory bowel disease was. This was when my nurse specialist and consultant turned me to Crohns and colitis UK charity. It has been a big support system for all these years for me and also for my friends and family.
Being an avid runner, back in 2013, I didn't even know if I would be possible to run long distances again due to the effects colitis has mainly on my body but also mentally. It has taken a long time and a few set backs but I was finally in remission at the start of 2021 and was great health.
I have unfortunately had multiple relapses since running the 2021 London Marathon which has given me a greater drive, determination and passion to complete the marathon this year and also thinking of those suffering that can’t run or unable to.
Partaking in the London Marathon is the madness dream come true (I know) but to be given the opportunity to fundraise and give back to a charity very close to my heart, raising as much awareness about IBD and highlight the amazing work this CCUK charity does. To help those who are maybe struggling with initial diagnosis as it is estimated over 500,000 people in the UK are living with this lifelong disease that many haven't even hard of. To those who unsure where to go and to educate those who may not be aware of how this charity has helped thousands of sufferers and their families, creating a friendly and supportive environment and to shy away from the stigma surrounding inflammatory bowel disease. We are not alone. This amazing charity are working to improve diagnosis and treatment, and to fund research into a cure; to raise awareness and to give people hope, comfort and confidence to live freer, fuller lives.
Of course words of wisdom, support and a wee hug to two along the way would be amazing and greatly appreciated.
Let the marathon adventure begin!
Here we go ROUND 2!!!
