Story

My story

A few of you will know this and many of you will not, but I myself was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease at the age of 18, during my final year of A-Levels. It is not something I particularly like to broadcast or talk about, but it was an incredibly tough time and something I have lived with ever since.

Crohn’s is a debilitating illness and sadly one which has no cure. On the whole I have been fortunate, receiving great care at both The Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading and now at Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham and I am in a position where I am able to attempt crazy activities like a 100 mile Ultra Marathon.

However, I was not always in this position and there have been times when I was unable to undertake any kind of physical exercise for months on end, let alone attempt almost four marathons back to back in under 30 hours!

Sadly there are many people who will be struggling with the impacts of Crohn’s and Colitis as you read this. It is for these people that I am running, not only to try and raise some money for a truly worthwhile cause, but also to hopefully show them that whilst times may be tough now, they can get better again.

If you are in a position to donate I would very much appreciate it. It makes the early mornings and grueling training runs that much easier.

Thanks,

George

More about Chron's and Colitis UK

Crohn’s and Colitis UK are the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s and Colitis.

Right now, an estimated 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. And the real number could be almost double that.

Because of the stigma and misunderstanding surrounding these diseases, thousands of people are suffering in silence.

But they’re not alone.

Crohn's and Colitis UK are working to improve diagnosis and treatment, and to fund research into a cure; to raise awareness and to give people hope, comfort and confidence to live freer, fuller lives.
