Story
Hullo everyone,
I should have posted this a long time ago, but here we are.
I am swimming (3.8km), cycling (180km) and running (42km) an Iron Man in Switzerland on July 5th, but you know that, because its all I've talked about for months...
You may not know, however, that I am raising money for Housing Justice's Destitution Fund along the way. I know what your thinking, isn't Housing Justice who he works for? Aren't we just paying his wages?
The answer is no (as you'd hope).
One of the many things that Housing Justice does, is support asylum seekers (through a hosting scheme), some of whom, due to a complicated immigration system, are stopped from working, and stopped from accessing any kind of financial support. Without charities like Housing Justice these people would be left destitute and homeless. Unlike for most people, the state is legally prohibited from helping them, there is NO other support.
For this reason, this is one of the most difficult and unresolvable forms of homelessness that exists. Whilst the solution in the long term is a more humane immigration system, sadly that will come far too late for those people stuck in the system today, if it ever comes at all.
So, if you have even a small amount that you could put towards it, I would be MASSIVELY grateful if you could sponsor me a few pounds. EVERY penny will go directly to those asylum seekers we support to pay for essentials (food, toiletries, bus fare etc).
This is definitely the hardest thing I've ever done, and no guarantees I'll even be able to finish it, but I'll do my best.
AND if you donate, I promise to not talk to you about it any more.
Thank you <3
George
