Campaign Update
We've been absolutely blown away by the amount of people that have wanted to support this cause! Thank you all so much for your donations!
As so many people have said that they want to support this campaign, we have extended the campaign target to £3000. This will allow us to support 20 people like Fana for 1 month, or two people like Fana for an entire year. All funds go directly to the people who have experienced homelessness. They help them with essential items like food, hygiene products , mobile phone top-ups and more. You can find more information below.
Fana's Story
Fana came to Housing Justice with nothing. No money, no support, no safety net. She survived by cleaning houses, caring for children, doing anything she could. People took advantage of her situation.
That all changed when Housing Justice offered Fana a place to live and £150 a month for essentials.

“That £150 changed everything. It gave me a little bit of confidence. It gave me choice. It meant I could pay for transport, buy a coffee, or buy food I could cook myself. It meant I could buy clothes from a charity shop, sanitary products, and other things I needed as a woman... “If it wasn’t for Housing Justice, I would still be completely dependent, still surviving however I could.” - Fana
£150 might not sound like a lot. But for Fana, at that time, it was everything. It meant she didn’t have to depend completely on other people. She could survive with dignity; remaining safe and independent.
Housing Justice supports many people like Fana every month. We’re asking for donations to support our Destitution Fund. This fund gives people who have experienced homelessness £150 a month whilst they stay in their hosting accommodation. The supported person can spend this money on essential items of their choice. These payments give supported people autonomy and control over their decisions; a right that many of us have access to every day.
We’re raising £1500 to support 10 people just like Fana. They can choose to spend the funds on things like food, feminine hygiene products, mobile phone top-ups and more. This extra cash gives them autonomy and control and redresses the balance of power in the hosting dynamic. If we exceed this target, we will increase the target to support even more people like Fana.

Our Impact
Our volunteer hosts and staff have described the impact of the destitution payments for the people we support:

“The Destitute payments that guests receive are a vital lifeline when there are no other options. This support means food on the table, the ability to travel to essential appointments, and staying connected to the support networks guests rely on to survive. It offers safety, dignity, and independence during the hardest moments. Without this lifeline, many guests would simply be unable to keep going.” - Ella, Housing Justice Team Member
“One of the struggles of being a Host is managing a relationship where there is such disparity of agency, money and control over one's life. Without the money my supported person received, it would have been a great deal harder. She had no recourse to public funds. The cash from Housing Justice gave her a measure of dignity, a feeling of having some control. For me, it was a vital relief that she was not totally dependent on me. Without the £150 monthly I would have struggled, and the relationship would have changed. The money and the support given to my supported person made the relationship possible and we could live together, grow together and exchange ideas and experience.” KG – Volunteer Host who offers people who have experienced homelessness a place to stay in her home

“The great thing about the Housing Justice destitution fund is that the guests have some autonomy in their lives. They can decide what they spend that money on. They can the food that they want to buy. They can buy toiletries. They can buy the necessities of life.” - Aidan, Volunteer Host
N.B. Fana's name has been changed to help the supported person remain anonymous.
