Help us transform our outdoor area to a peaceful horticulture garden for our patients on Akenside

Story

My name is George Moat and I am a volunteer gardener with CNTW {Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear Hospital trust} I am passionate about gardening and the benefits it can have to peoples mental health and wellbeing.

Help us create a Healing Garden at St Nicholas Hospital.

This October/November we're moving to our new home at St Nicholas Hospital, and we've been allocated a generous size courtyard to transform into something truly special- a calming, therapeutic garden space much like we had at our old site.

Thanks to the incredible support of the Trust's charity we've already secured £40,000 to lay the groundwork: preparing the area, making it accessible and building the foundations. But now, we need your help to turn this space into something beautiful.

To help raise the additional funds needed, I'm taking on a huge challenge, a SKYDIVE.

Why? because I am passionate about the huge benefits it brings to mental health and wellbeing. I want to create a safe, welcoming outdoor space where patients, carers, families and staff can come together- to breathe, to relax and to reconnect with nature.

The wards we support cares for older adults including people with dementia. for many, a garden is more than just plants and flowers- it's a way to spark memories, engage the senses and find calm in what can be a confusing and distressing time. It's a space that supports recovery, connections and joy.

The original garden {see pic below} at our old site was loved by everyone who used it- we've seen the difference it made. We can recreate that magic and more.

Please donate what you can. Every pound helps us grow something truly special.

Thank you so much.
