August 2025 update: Akenside ward has secured funding from the SHINE fund to lay the groundwork for the new garden space! This will fund accessibility improvements including ground resurfacing and upgrading planters.

All donations and future fundraising related to the garden will help Akenside further enhance the space through the purchase of plants, shrubs, seeds etc.

Akenside ward, our older peoples inpatient service, is moving to St. Nicholas Hospital this year. At our current site, patients have worked hard with staff and our volunteer gardener George to create a peaceful, therapeutic garden area.

We want to be able to do the same on our new site, however the garden area requires some additional work, so we are fundraising to transform the space and make it beneficial and enjoyable for all.

Having a relaxing outdoor space brings so much joy to our patients in what is a very difficult time for them and their loved ones.
