Story
In the last five months, since joining the fundraising team at FareShare South West, you've probably heard me talking about the very new and very exciting event we've launched: an abseil of the iconic Avon Gorge.
The plan was simple: charm my colleagues, trustees and fundraisers into the idea of abseiling 30ft and raising vital funds to join the dots between hunger and food waste.
Things were going well, until a last-minute cancellation meant I finally had to leave the comfort of my desk, put my money where my mouth is and join my courageous (or crazy!?) colleagues taking the leap to fix a broken food system.
Why would I sign myself up to do something so terrifying!?
Because right now, more than 1 million people in the south west are living in poverty. Meanwhile, 4.6 million tonnes of quality, edible food – enough for more than 10 billion meals – is wasted every year across the food industry, causing irreparable climate damage.
And why £548!?
It's enough to get food for three meals a day to TWO PEOPLE facing food poverty every day for a year. Every £1 you donate means food for 4 meals - so whatever you can give will make a real difference.
If you fancy seeing a very frightened Georgie at the Gorge-y, shoot me a message and I'll send you the deets to come and cheer.
THANK YOU! x
