Attempt to complete the Welsh 3 Peaks by foot (running the whole 220km distance) and in doing so break the Record!!!, 2 January 2024
We rescue abandoned and neglected animals to ensure they survive to live a good life

Story

The challenge is to run the whole of the Welsh 3 Peaks (220km), climbing over 7500 metres. I will be doing this all on my own with no support during this challenge!!

If this was not hard enough I am attempting to take this challenge on during a time of year no challenge like this has ever been completed, starting January 2nd (traditionally the worst month for weather in the mountains).

The current records for this challenge (published by Fastest Known Time - FKT) is held by Isaac Kenyon who completed this challenge unsupported back in August last year in a time of 3days 4hours and 25 minutes. The supported record was achieved by Steve Viner and Steve Dawling this year in 1day 23hrs and 17minutes.

Having already obtained the National 3 Peaks Solo Record by foot this year (which tested every part of my body both physically and mentally) I feel this challenge represents unfinished business and would love to hold both records in the space of a year!!!

This Welsh 3 Peaks challenge I feel will be my hardest challenge yet. To complete this challenge and achieve the record I will need to ask my body to give everything it has. While this is less than half the distance I covered last summer when I completed the National 3 Peaks, to achieve the record I will need to keep my body going on zero hours sleep. Staying alert on the mountains and roads in baltic treacherous weather conditions with little daylight hours with no support!!!

I have not done much in the way of hard fitness training since last summers feats but I have a good 5 week Rocky Balboa old school training camp ahead planned (least thats what I am calling it lol)....."time to build some bombs"...

I will be posting regular updates on my training and as before you will be able to track me live whilst I am completing this challenge.

Why am I doing this crazy challenge??? well my wife thinks this is still part of a midlife crisis but it's not and you will be glad to hear it's not because I am bonkers!!! it's a personal quest to find and prove to myself what I am capable off!!

Also I am using my challenge as a platform to raise funds for this amazing animal sanctuary that I personally know. A charity whereby the owners give all they have mentally and physically to keep wild and domestic animals safe and cared for!!!

If a little bit of pain by me completing this challenge can raise a small amount of needed funds for these animals to help keep them alive, then this will give me great motivation I need!!!!

I will also take you on a tour of the sanctuary where you can meet some of these amazing animals that have been saved by the team there!!!!

About the charity

In 2013 we moved to Gower to retire but after seeing so many abandoned and emaciated ponies we turned our home into a Sanctuary for them as a “save haven” to be cared for and rehabilitated. We have rescued over 300 animals, only accomplishing this with the generosity of our wonderful supporters.
