Story
Here’s a heartfelt version Graham could use on his JustGiving page:
I’m taking on this challenge to raise money for the National Brain Appeal, a charity that means a great deal to someone very close to me.
My good friend Jack is also taking part in this run, and without the support of the National Brain Appeal, his story could have been very different.
In 2014, at just 18 years old, Jack underwent what should have been a routine operation for hydrocephalus. Tragically, he developed Guillain-Barré Syndrome afterwards and became paralysed from head to toe. He lost the ability to walk, talk and eat independently, and was told he might never walk properly again.
What followed was months of determination, rehabilitation and sheer resilience. Jack had to learn everything again from scratch. Despite the odds stacked against him, he refused to give up.
Since then, Jack has gone on to complete three half marathons and continues to inspire everyone around him with his courage and determination. Even now, he still faces ongoing challenges with his health, but he never lets them define him.
The National Brain Appeal supports life-changing care, research and treatment for people living with neurological conditions. By donating, you’ll be helping more people like Jack receive the support they need when they need it most.
Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference. Thank you for your support.
