Story

On the 23rd of March, I will be running my first ever half marathon to raise crucial funds for Tia Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue so that they can continue with the important work that they do!

If you know me, you will know that both of our pups were adopted through Tia Rescue. We first welcomed Peggy into our home in 2019. We were interested in adopting a greyhound and went to Tia to gather some information before starting to look for a dog. When we arrived, Deb very quickly suggested meeting the dogs - rookie error! As soon as our eyes locked with this beautiful girl, we knew Peggy was the one for us. 2 weeks later we brought her home and she continues to brighten our lives every day.

5 months after we got Peggy, the UK went into its first lockdown. Tia was struggling with staff shortages due to the lockdown and asked for help from previous adopters to foster a dog, to keep their staff safe while still providing high quality care to all the beautiful dogs. We decided we were in a position to foster and brought our Billy home. It will be no surprise that the fostering became permanent within a week.

Unfortunately, many greyhounds still aren't so lucky in finding their forever sofa and many remain in rescues around the country. Tia continues to take on as many dogs as possible that leave the racing industry. They work tirelessly to help save, rehabilitate and rehome sighthounds across the country.

Like many other charities, they have been deeply impacted by the current economic situation. Therefore, over the next couple of months, I am hoping to raise some money to help them continue the amazing work they do. If you can spare even just a pound, it will make all the difference (4 sausage rolls in fact)!

As I start my training, I will be providing regular updates.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and donating to a worthy cause! All the money raised will be going straight to Tia.

About the charity

Tia Rescue, founded in 1997, is an independent charity based in the North of England. The kennels provide safety to around 100 abandoned greyhounds until they find their "forever home". In 2013 Tia Rescue extended its work to include helping heavy horses.
