Story
On Thursday 18 June 2026, I’ll be taking on the South Downs Walking Challenge, organised by the McCarthy Stone Foundation, to help raise vital funds to reduce loneliness and isolation among people in later life.
Starting and finishing in Eastbourne, East Sussex, I’ll be walking one of three challenging distances – 12km, 30km or 47km – through the beautiful South Downs countryside, alongside colleagues, friends, family and supporters of the Foundation.
Why I’m taking part
Loneliness can have a devastating impact on older people, particularly those living in the most deprived areas of the UK. The McCarthy Stone Foundation supports charities and community groups that help people aged 65+ stay connected, independent and supported.
Every penny donated to this challenge is match funded, meaning your support goes twice as far and doubles the impact of every donation.
💙 Thank you for helping to reduce loneliness in later life.
