Why Are We Fundraising for Great Ormond Street Hospital?
This term, Epple House is raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) – a very special place that helps children who are seriously ill, especially those with cancer.
Every year, around 1,800 children in the UK are told they have cancer, and sadly, five children lose their lives to it each week. GOSH is building a brand-new Children’s Cancer Centre to help even more families in the future. But for us at Herne Bay High, this is more than just a good cause – it’s personal.
Two students in Epple House have been supported by GOSH for most of their lives. Their family has faced some incredibly difficult times. They lost their dad to cancer when they were very young, and heartbreakingly, also lost their sister just before she was due to start school with us.
Both students have a rare condition that means they must go to hospital often for check-ups and scans. One of them even had to have major cancer treatment last year — she's one of only two children in the UK to have had this kind of surgery. Thanks to the help from GOSH, she’s doing really well now.
Throughout everything, GOSH has been there — offering medical care, support, and hope.
We are so proud of our students and want to stand beside them by helping this amazing hospital. We hope you will join us in raising money, showing kindness, and making a difference for children like them.
Let’s work together to support GOSH – every penny counts.
