The Holy Trinity church tower is the highest point in the centre of Exmouth, and the flags flying from it can be seen right across the town, and fulfil an important civic function for the community. The task of replacement is complicated by the fact that the aluminium pole is 45 feet tall and removing it, other than through a straight lift off the top, presents a real risk of knocking one or more of the pinnacles off the top of the tower. The problem with using a large crane is that the vehicle carrying the crane is so heavy that there is the possibility of destroying our tarmac driveway. Recently, however, we think we have managed to make some progress. We have now found a crane hire firm who think that they can reverse their large crane into position, and as long as the vehicle does not need to turn its wheels to adjust itself, damage to the driveway should, hopefully, be avoided. If the crane option worked (and we think that it will), then we have a steeplejack firm on standby who would help guide the old flagpole safely up off the tower. We have also now spoken to a supplier of a new 12 metre fibreglass flagpole. Fibreglass is now the recommended material for flagpoles used on coastal churches. It is durable, flexible, and lasts a long time in all forms of weather and sea conditions. The new flagpole could be hoisted into place and fixed on the same day, making full use of the crane and the steeplejacks. All that we need now to complete the project is to raise the necessary funds.

About the charity

This building has served Exmouth for many, many years. It is costly to maintain and we depend entirely on the voluntary contributions. Your gift will help us to continue to preach the gospel and to serve the community.
