Hunter's fundraiser for Spencer Dayman Meningitis Research

Hunter Healthcare is raising money for Spencer Dayman Meningitis Research
In memory of Spencer

SDMR Fundraising · 30 June 2026

The primary aim of Spencer Dayman Meningitis Research is to fund scientific research into the causes and treatment of meningitis, sepsis and other associated diseases. The driving force behind our activities are families and communities who have experienced these terrible diseases.

Story

The charity we’ll be supporting this year is: Spencer Dayman Meningitis Research

This charity was nominated by Steve, whose brother Spencer sadly passed away from meningitis in 1982. Since then, Steve’s family has played a major role in founding and leading several national meningitis charities in the UK, resulting in vital awareness campaigns, improved diagnosis, and the introduction of life-saving vaccines. Today, Steve’s father, Steve Dayman Snr, runs the charity on a fully voluntary basis, with donations going directly to scientific research.

Recent research funded by SDMR includes:

• A five-minute diagnostic test for meningitis and sepsis being developed at the University of Bristol.

• Groundbreaking work toward a vaccine for invasive Group A Strep, a major cause of sepsis and meningitis.

We’re proud to support such an impactful, research-driven organisation with a deeply personal connection to our team.

Over the coming months, we’ll be getting involved in a range of activities, from fundraising events to volunteering and awareness campaigns. We kicked things off with a marathon walk across London, stopping at 7–8 hospitals, which was a huge success on 26th September 2025.

Next up is our charity pub quiz - with a small donation to enter - and we’re excited to keep the momentum going while raising even more support for a great cause.
