Half Marathon · 8 September 2024

The Orthotics department at Royal Hospital for Children Glasgow is the only Orthotics department in Scotland specialising solely in Paediatrics. The core treatment area is Greater Glasgow.

Story

I’m running a half marathon on the 8th of September and will be raising money for the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity. The work they do is truly incredible, caring for kids in Scotland when they need it most.

Not long after my daughter Stevie-Lynne was born, she needed neurosurgery and will have ongoing treatment over the next few years - including helmet therapy. Stevie was fortunate enough to be diagnosed early enough to qualify for endoscopic surgery - a much less invasive operation that was only introduced in Scotland last March. The helmet therapy, which is overseen by the Orthotics department within the Royal Children’s hospital, is part of Stevie’s ongoing treatment which is why I have chosen to raise money for this department.

On a personal level, the expertise, attention and empathy shown from the staff at the hospital has had such an impact on my family. During a difficult time, they not only delivered an outstanding level of care but also inspired us, educated us and made us laugh along the way. These guys are real life superheroes who need all the help they can get to keep doing this essential work.

I don’t expect to change the world here but if you have a spare couple of quid to donate it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks to anyone who contributes, I’ll be sure to share a few photos of me on the day looking absolutely burst 😂
