Prostate Cancer UK has a simple ambition - to stop men dying from prostate cancer. Through shifting the science over the next 10 years to focus on radical improvements in diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and support, we will stop prostate cancer being a killer.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Back in 2016, after a routine check up, I found out that I had prostate cancer. Luckily for me it had not spread and as such, after a tricky operation, I successfully had my prostate (and the cancer) removed.

Whilst I am currently in the clear, your life is never quite the same after you hear the words "Sorry but you have cancer" so to continue raising awareness of this awful disease, I am taking on the BIGGEST CHALLENGE OF MY LIFE by attempting to run the iconic Marathon Des Sables, across the Moroccan Sahara desert in April 2026. 270k (170 miles) over 6 days in upto 50 degrees whilst carrying a 10kg backpack (iwe are self sufficient so have to carry all our food, kit and sleeping bags for the week!). Then add in grim terrain, sandstorms and scorpions for good measure!

As if the usual race was not enough, they have chosen, because its the 40th edition, to make one day a massive 100k in one go plus extend the overall race by 20k. To say I am bricking it is an understatement but if I can raise a few quid along the way it will both motivate me to keep on going and help me make a difference so other men will not have to worry about prostate cancer in time to come.

I am running this race with my prostate cancer brother Kev who was not as lucky as me and has a terminal prognosis, we will both be doing what we can, I hope you can too.

As well as the race itself, I expect to be running 1,000s miles in training and to maximise my fundraising all my race gear and entry fee are being paid at my own expense.

One in eight men currently get prostate cancer and a man dies every 45 minutes in the UK of this indiscriminate disease (Thats 12,000 a year!). By supporting the charity, we can try to help future generations.
