Taking part in the Magnolia Cup means far more to me than simply racing. It represents reclaiming confidence in my body, and exploring what I am capable of achieving.

In 2024, I underwent a prophylactic double mastectomy after learning I had a 90% chance of developing breast cancer. In the same year, I had double hip surgery to correct femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). What began as a year of potentially life saving and life improving surgeries also became a year that challenged my sense of identity.

Before these experiences, I rarely thought twice about what my body could do. However, after these surgeries I found my confidence to embrace challenges seemed to disappear, replaced by a new found sense of mortality and fear of jeopardising the health I had fought to preserve.

During recovery I realised something important, what was the point of going through those surgeries, of being given the opportunity to live a healthy and active life, if I wasn't truly going to live it?

That realisation led me to the Magnolia Cup.

I wanted to do something that would push me out of my comfort zone, challenge my new body, and force me to face fear head on. Horse racing is exhilarating, demanding, and terrifying - just the type of challenge I was looking for!

The Magnolia Cup is my way of celebrating resilience, embracing opportunity, and proving to myself that life's challenges do not define our limits. I am also proud to be racing in support of Education Above All. Hearing the inspiring stories on the launch day has made me even more determined to complete this challenge. I am grateful for every donation that helps create opportunities for others to overcome barriers and realise their own potential.

The 2026 Markel Magnolia Cup will raise vital funds to support girls’ empowerment around the world through education and economic opportunity.

Providing access to education for out of school children

Expanding access to finance for young female entrepreneurs

Providing skills training for decent jobs and livelihoods
