Story

18th May 2018 was the date Motor Neurone Disease (MND) changed our family in a very profound way. However, it took hold 18mths prior when Maxine Hobday, our mum, was diagnosed – at that stage we didn’t know what lay ahead.

Many diseases wreak havoc, but in our opinion MND is one of the cruellest. It took away our mum in a horrific manner and way too soon. If you knew Maxi, you would have known that she didn’t mince her words, loved her family fiercely and approached each day with purpose. Her body gave up, but her mind remained stoic.

More needs to be done to understand this disease but also support those enduring it. The charity we are championing does it all. The MND Association funds research, improves care and provides support for people with MND, their families and carers.

So, what are we doing? Almost 7 years on, we (Maxi’s adoring children) have collectively decided that our legs can be used for purpose...

We run, and you cheer us on in the form of cash (please)!!

In 2025 we are each running a marathon:

14th June - Salisbury (UK) (Ashley)

31st August - Sydney (AU) (Evadne)

14th September - Richmond (UK) (Dorian & Imogen)

Ash has form… completing the toughest footrace in the world, the MARATHON DES SABLES (a 250km run over 6 stages in the Sahara) – she’ll eat this trail marathon in Salisbury for breakfast!

Evadne has form, but less so than her big sister! She loves trail running, but a flat road marathon is not something she has ever taken on.

Imogen (not a runner) and long since retired from netball, is determined to reignite her former gazelle spring and is beginning to pound the pavements. Don’t underestimate the competitive spirit, it runs deep!

Dorian likes to pretend he isn’t sporty but also excels at pretty much anything he puts his mind to. P.s. he purchased some running shoes the other day and boshed out a ½ marathon in 2hrs having never run that far (cue eye roll from his youngest sister!)

Please get behind us. Mum will always remain our daily motivation, but your support has the ability to positively impact many others facing MND head on.

Evadne, Dorian, Imogen and Ashley.

P.S. We have chosen the target of £2600 as this would represent £100 for each mile that we four run. Go on! - It's a bargain!

All funds will be directed to the BRISTOL & BATH MNDA group - they are particularly close to our hearts as it is they who provided such great support to Mum as she suffered with MND.
