After losing my brother to suicide two years ago, my family and I have been in contact with Project Recce and have been supporting their cause. After an action packed life full of adventures, my brother Jeremy chose to end his own life. This was part due to struggling after leaving the military as there was little support offered at that time. Project Recce is a charity that aims to change this and support ex veterans, specifically with employment links into the construction industry.
They help ex-military personnel reintegrate into society and provide a pathway into the construction industry. Many who leave the military, like my brother, leave without support and employment going forward. They face the harsh reality of being alone in many ways. Project Recce not only provides employment opportunities and training but also a community of supportive ambassadors and others with similar experiences as well as key signposting for support and mental health charities.
I have decided to run the London Marathon 2024 in aid of this and in memorial of my brother, Caesar Jeremy Pennell. I'm sure he'll be keeping me going along the way, telling me a marathon isn't actually that hard and he could do it without training.
If anyone is around in London on the day please please come and shout at me as I run! I'm going to need all the support I can get! There is also a public playlist (upbeat songs only!) where you can add to my music that I will listen to in the last weeks of training and on the day! This link is available upon request 😂, funny songs welcome.
Anything you are able to give to help this charity is greatly appreciated.
