Community Request for The Friends of Iron Acton School

Craig Griffiths is raising money for The Friends of Iron Acton School
Iron Acton Primary seeks support for a new learning space to aid children needing interventions and support. A trial in 2023-24 proved effective, and a larger, year-round facility will help more children reach their potential.

Story

Due to the incredible generosity of local residents and supporters, we have already raised £15,000 towards our £30,000 fundraising target. We are now reaching out to the wider local community to ask whether you might be willing to help us raise the remaining funds needed to make this project a reality.

Over the past decade, the school has grown from 79 pupils in 2015 to 105 pupils today and is now at full capacity. At the same time, the school has noticed that the needs of its pupils have changed significantly, with more children requiring small group and one-to-one support to help them flourish both academically and emotionally.

The school urgently needs a calm, quiet space where children can take part in essential interventions such as reading with a teacher, small group maths and English work, and therapeutic activities including art therapy. Unfortunately, due to the age and size of the existing school building, there is currently no suitable space available for this important work.

As Headteacher Mr Riches explains:

“Children’s needs have changed over time and significantly more support is now needed to cater appropriately for the children we have in our care. Learning-focused and socially-focused interventions are increasingly important, and additional space is the only way we can ensure we do the best for the children at our school both now and in the future.”

Unfortunately, adapting the existing building is just not possible, so the school community have been fundraising tirelessly in order to install a small, purpose built cabin on the school site to provide this much needed learning space.

How you can help:

Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a real difference and bring us closer to providing a space that will directly benefit children at the school for many years to come. We have also included a gift aid form to be completed for donations larger than £30 (we can claim gift aid on donations less than £30 without a completed form).

Of course we fully appreciate that the current economic climate makes giving more challenging, and we are extremely grateful for any support you may be able to offer. This project is about ensuring that every child at Iron Acton Primary School has the space and support they need to thrive. With the help of our local community, we believe this is something we can achieve together.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this letter and for considering supporting our community school.
