Story
Hi, my names Isabella and I am 18. I will be doing a skydive for BEAT, an eating disorder charity that is very close to heart for me. Beat supports anyone with an eating disorder, their friends and family, as well as professionals working with or worried about an individual in their care.
I've suffered from Anorexia Nervosa and multiple other mental health conditions since 2020, I was only 14 when I was diagnosed with my eating disorder. Since then I have had to go through hospital admissions, including an inpatient specialist unit far from home. All I went through created a lot of trauma for me but with the support of the nurses and charities such as BEAT I was able to process them and overcome them.
Without the help of healthcare professionals, family, friends, school and charities such as BEAT I wouldn't be where I am today. Anorexia had a hold of me and nearly took my life from me but it is with happy tears that I can say it didn't and I've recently been discharged from eating disorder and mental health services which I am incredibly proud of and I'm ready to go and build an amazing life for myself surrounded by those I love, just as I should be.
When I was in the depths of my ED I seeked support from BEAT and I can remember that call clear as day and I honestly don't know where I would be without that call. Feeling so isolated and being far away from my family was probably one of the hardest things I've been through but even if I felt it I wasn't alone as there were lots of people around me who cared and supported me.
Anorexia took so much from me—my smile, my personality, my life. But by choosing recovery, I am slowly reclaiming all of those things. That said, I still have difficult days where I struggle and feel alone, which is why I am doing this skydive. I want to raise awareness, help others feel less alone, and ensure that those struggling can access the right support for themselves and their families.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Any donations, or even just sharing this page, will make a huge difference in supporting BEAT so they can continue helping people—just like they helped me that day.
