Story
In 2014, at just 18 years old, my life changed overnight.
Following what should have been a routine operation for hydrocephalus, I developed Guillain-Barré Syndrome and became paralysed from head to toe. I lost the ability to walk, talk and eat independently. Doctors warned that I might never walk properly again.
The months that followed were some of the toughest of my life. I had to learn everything again from scratch – from taking my first steps to rebuilding my confidence and independence. There were times when the road ahead felt impossible, but I was determined not to let my diagnosis define me.
Since then, I’ve gone on to complete three half marathons, something that once seemed unimaginable when I was lying in a hospital bed unable to move. Every finish line has been a reminder of how far I’ve come and what can be achieved with the right support, determination and hope.
The National Brain Appeal supports groundbreaking research, life-changing treatment and vital services for people living with neurological conditions. Throughout my life with hydrocephalus and the challenges that have come with it, organisations like this have helped make a real difference to people facing some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
This run is my way of giving something back and helping ensure others receive the same hope, care and opportunities that I have been fortunate enough to benefit from.
Thank you for supporting me. Every donation, no matter the size, will help make a difference and is hugely appreciated.
