LATNEM - A mile for Mummy

Swimming a mile for my Mummy!
Jack is swimming 65 lengths (a whole mile!) to raise money for LATNEM, which he affectionately calls "the lovely mums club". This is a huge challenge for an 8 year old boy and he is really excited about it!
Jack and his “lovely and awesome” Mummy spent a few months together in the Mother and Baby Mental Health Unit in Livingston after his mum experienced a severe depressive episode postnatally. When his Mummy recovered, she co-founded LATNEM so that she could make sure that all of the "lovely mums" could be supported with their mental health - Jack was at the very first LATNEM meeting 5 years ago and has been a regular ever since, he's a big fan of the cake tray!
Four years ago, Jack completed his “Mile for Mummy” by walking and riding his trike and is very excited to take on a big swimming challenge this time!
In the UK, suicide accounts for 34% of maternal deaths between 6 weeks and 12 months after the end of pregnancy and the rates of maternal mortality from suicide continues to increase.
LATNEM support mums and birthing people with their mental health; ensuring they feel supported, cared for and less alone and that their children and families do not have to deal with the far-reaching impacts of maternal suicide.
LATNEM are a charity run entirely by mums with lived experience of maternal mental ill health; everything they do is to prevent maternal suicide.
We support mums and birthing people to improve and maintain their mental wellbeing in many different ways. Our peer support meetings give them the opportunity to feel supported, cared for and less alone. Registered LATNEM members may benefit from a resource library full of self help and reference books, group psychology, group EFT sessions, Mindfulness evenings, mental wellbeing courses and a lot more.
