Story

Hello, everyone!

I’m reaching out to share a personal journey and ask for your support in a cause that is very close to my heart. In December 2023, I was involved in a serious accident that left me in a coma for two weeks at Derriford Hospital, where I was treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for a traumatic brain injury. During that time, I was given exceptional care by a team of doctors, nurses, and specialists who fought to keep me alive and help me recover.

The ICU team at Derriford played a pivotal role in my survival and recovery, and I’ll be forever grateful for their expertise and compassion. Today, I’m fortunate to be on a path to healing, but I know that not everyone has the same outcome. This is why I’m now committed to giving back and helping ensure that Intensive Care Units have the resources it needs to continue saving lives and providing top-tier care for those in need.

How I’m Giving Back

On 06/04/25, I’ll be running the London Landmarks Half Marathon as part of my personal recovery and to raise funds for the Intensive Care Society which helps support ICUs all over the country. I’m hoping to raise £350 (the more the better…) to help support and improve the services they offer to patients like me. Every penny you donate will go directly to supporting ICUs and helping them purchase vital equipment, provide ongoing training, and offer the best possible care for those who need it most.

Why Your Support Matters

The ICU is often the difference between life and death for patients in critical condition, and the work they do goes far beyond just saving lives — it’s about giving patients the chance to recover, rebuild, and return to their families and communities. Your donations will make a real impact, and I can’t think of a better way to show my gratitude for the care I received.

How You Can Help

• Donate: Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference.

• Share: Please share this page with your friends and family to help spread the word.

• Encourage: Send me words of encouragement as I train and run for this incredible cause.

Thank you so much for your generosity, your support, and for being part of my journey as I take on the London Landmarks Half Marathon in support of the Intensive Care Society. Together, we can help save lives and provide the critical care that so many people depend on.

With heartfelt thanks,

Jake Sharp
