Story
Well we are nearly there and about to commence the trek. Once again thank you for all the support it really has been incredible. Our target was achieved sometime ago now but you have continued to donate. We have reached £8,333 and with the two groups combined raised over £120,000. Unbelievable achievement down to everyone’s generosity.
Hi everyone, just a quick update and a huge thank you for the continued support and donations which has been incredible. After setting the target quite high from start we have already reached 88%, a remarkable achievement in a short space of time. We have some more to achieve and with your continued support I’m sure we will reach our targets.
As difficult as it has been speaking about Dan to those that didn’t know him. The response has been amazing, whether it would be support, donations, even kit advice for the trek I can’t thank you all enough. Dan’s memory is burning bright for sure.
Training is under way, feet can vouch for that. Camber is the closest comparison for condition experience obviously without the heat. After testing the dunes repeatedly with my very happy dogs the challenge in the heat of the Sahara won’t be easy by any means.
Please continue to donate, and even consider joining one of their future events they have planned at St Wilfred’s.
Wow what can I say other than a huge thank you for donating. We have received an email from St Wilfred’s to say we were amongst the top 5% for money raised. All down to the kind generous donations. Thanks again we are now at 71% of our target which is amazing in such a short period of time.
Just a quick update, thank you all for the donations and kind messages. We received an email from Justgiving today to say that due to all the support we were in the top 10% for money raised. Another clear indication of what Dan meant to us all.
Sadly on September 6th 2024 Dan Mac lost his long battle. His determination after continuous setbacks was truly inspiring. I want to raise as much money as I can and represent a huge group of friends and family who now have this huge hole within us. The challenge across the Sahara desert will certainly be a personal challenge but one fuelled by Dan’s fight and determination in my memory.
Statistics show that 1 in every 2 of us will experience cancer at some point in our lives and therefore likely to need to support from St Wilfred's, whether that's in the hospice itself or out in the community. Their care with Dan exceeded my expectations, they not only helped Dan to see out his last few days relaxed and pain free but supported his family as a whole. They were so kind, compassionate and understanding. Their care and support also extended beyond his stay there with counselling, funeral planning and financial advice if wanted. Before Dan went in we were all scared of the word 'hospice' but we shouldn't have been. I can't say enough kind words about them.
