Thanks for taking the time to visit my Ride and Stride 2023 JustGiving page.

Over the years the distances I have cycled on the Ride and Stride event have increased, but this year is an exceptional one because it is the year I plan to ride 100 miles in the day. It is a bit of a daunting prospect. Last year I cycled 77 miles and I ran out of time and the energy was pretty much gone too.

The event sees me astride my trusty Carlton bicycle which my Mother bought for my birthday in 1978 It was second-hand then and it has had a few new parts over the years but a good chunk of it is still original. I will also be wearing a tie, shirt, shoes and trousers. I will allow myself the extra padding of a second pair of boxer shorts! While I may not be the speediest cyclist I do find that this is quite a comfortable outfit to ride in.

The Ride and Stride event raises money for the upkeep of Churches. Some of these have been around for over 1000 years. For example All Saints Rettendon was built around 1200 then more was added in the 15th century.

These Churches are testimony to the strength of communities then and now. Can I please ask you to sponsor me as I cycle my way from Church to Church as generously as you can.

Half the money raised goes to the local church and half to The Friends of Essex Churches. The Friends and the other Historic Trusts manage funds and give grants to churches that need urgent repairs.
