Story
Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would be saying this…on 22 September 2024 I will be ‘Facing the Dragon’ and taking part in IRONMAN Wales.
I will be swimming 2.4 miles, cycling 112 miles and running 26.2 miles around beautiful Pembrokeshire…and it has to be completed within 17 hours!
Why have I have chosen to fundraise for Blue Light Card Foundation?
Wellbeing across the Armed Forces & Emergency Services is affected due to frequent exposure to distressing situations, long and unpredictable hours and significant threats to their safety.
Every day, we rely on the skills and selfless dedication of members of these communities and this charity is working towards a future where every member of the Blue Light community, both past and present, feels empowered, supported and heard.
I am a proud veteran, having served 24 years in the Royal Air Force. I am the co-founder of YourNorth, a mental health & wellbeing training company, and also the co-founder of a community interest company that specifically supports the wellbeing of these communities. Blue Light Card Foundation are supporting us with vital funds so we can provide our services for members and their families, and this is my way of giving back for all the incredible work they do.
I’m a complete novice with all aspects of triathlon and I mean novice, so any support you can give would be greatly appreciated. I’m a few weeks into my training schedule and I am already having to dig much deeper than I ever have before!
This challenge will be the toughest I have ever faced and I invite you to join me as I embark on a journey that will no doubt be painful & challenging…yet so worthwhile!
In the run up to Ironman I will be taking part in various other events to raise funds & awareness of Blue Light Card Foundation, starting with the London Landmarks Half Marathon in April.
Thank you so much for your support, I am truly grateful.
You can follow my training journey on Facebook & Linkedin, come and give me a follow!
With gratitude,
Jamie
