Story
I had a double mastectomy in 2019 due to breast cancer, a disease which sadly my mum and Caroline, my lovely work colleague of 27 years, lost their battles to. I’m sure many of you will also know tragic stories of other breast cancer sufferers. I have been fortunate enough to turn my health and life around and enjoy fitness again.
I am raising funds for Breast Cancer Now by competing topless in a HYROX competition at London Olympia on 4th May 2024. This fantastic charity provides support and care for those affected, and funds research into treatments.
It’s a very tough event anyway, but braving the added exposure of my torso and scars, which I have never done before in public, will make it even more challenging. I will be stretched well out of my comfort zone. I hope competing topless in front of thousands of athletes and spectators will raise awareness and encourage people to support my fundraising.
The Hyrox event is incredibly physically demanding and I have been training really hard for this event for some months, putting in hours of commitment. If you’re able to support me by donating to Breast Cancer Now or supporting me on the day, it would mean a massive amount to me.
Hyrox involves an 8km running race, split up every 1km with eight different workouts:
1. 1km SkiErg
2. 50m Sled push (102kg)
3. 50m Sled pull (78kg)
4. 80m Burpee broad jump
5. 1km Row
6. 200m Farmer's carry (2x16kg kettle bells)
7. 100m Weighted sandbag lunges (10kg)
8. 75 Wall balls (4kg)
