Story
In July 2026, I am joining a small group of women from around the world on a Her Planet Earth impact journey to Fiji, travelling to the frontlines of climate resilience.
This journey is part of a wider Her Planet Earth mission: while I am in Fiji meeting the women at the heart of this work, another team of 12 women will be trekking 80km through the mountains of Japan, raising funds for the very same cause, read more about the Japan expedition here. Two teams, two continents, one purpose.
We are raising funds for Conservation International's work in Fiji, where women in coastal communities sustainably harvest nama (a local seaweed or 'sea grapes'), using generations of inherited ecological knowledge. These women are restoring ecosystems and quietly leading one of the most credible models of climate resilience on the planet.
And this time, I won't just be raising money for them from the other side of the world. I will actually be there. During the journey we will harvest seagrapes alongside the Namuaimada Women's Group, join local communities in restoring mangroves, visit the Nanukuloa Village women who are leading reforestation across degraded land, and hike through Narara's forests to waterfall pools with local community hosts.
Seaweed... It sounds modest! But it sits at the intersection of carbon sequestration, food security, biodiversity restoration, and women's economic empowerment. It is a solution that already works. It just needs support. For a closer look at the women behind this work and why their livelihoods matter, read this CBS News article on Fiji's seaweed farmers and the climate pressures threatening their way of life.
My goal is to raise USD $5,000. Every dollar goes directly to Conservation International Fiji and the women whose knowledge and determination are already building the future we all need.
