People keep asking me why on earth I'm running nearly 600 kilometres across Sri Lanka…
GREEEEEEEEAT QUESTION, GUYS!! 😅 Ya want the truth? We desperately need a new hospital, which will be the most expensive project in WECare’s history, so I’m taking matters into my own hands (feet? 🦶🏼) to fund it.
For almost 12 years I’ve dedicated my life to Sri Lanka’s street dogs, watching them recover from horrific injuries, celebrating countless second chances, and working alongside an amazing team who share the same dream: that EVERY street has access to high standard veterinary care.
We work our arses off but the need is so great that demand forever outweighs our resources, and we’re constantly turning animals away (despite having a perpetually full hospital 🫠). Our humble little hospital has been a lifeline for SO many animals over the years, but we’ve long outgrown it, and it’s finally time to do something about it.
We’re planning to build Sri Lanka's first purpose-built veterinary hospital, rehabilitation centre and veterinary training facility dedicated to street dogs. We have the land (eeeeeeeeeeek!) but no money for the actual build.
So - I can’t believe I’m even saying this - this October 2026 I'll be running from Point Pedro to Dondra, almost 600 kilometres through heat, humidity and everything Sri Lanka decides to throw at me 😅. Before this I hadn’t run in 15 years- it doesn’t come easy to me, I’ve never experienced a runner’s high (you guys are LIARS 😆), and I’ve never seen my trotters look so… hideous. But losing toenails and the ability to sit on the loo is NOTHING compared to the suffering we see daily. If a dog can survive losing a nose, having its leg torn off by a train, or being eaten alive by maggots, I can get through this.
Training on top of a full-time job is hectic, especially in the tropics- think early mornings, late nights, 34 degree heat, and 85% humidity 🥵 But every mile is one step closer to giving thousands of street dogs the future they deserve.
If you want to be a part of something HUGE (and no, I’m not just talking about my blisters 😜) please donate today and we can achieve this dream together 🫶🏼 LET’S DO IT FOR THE DOGS!!
