"I'm suffering so street dogs don't have to." – Dr Janey Lowes, Founder of WECare
People keep asking me why on earth I'm running nearly 600 kilometres across Sri Lanka.
The honest answer is... because I don't know what else to do…!
For more than eleven years I've dedicated my life to Sri Lanka's street dogs. I've watched them recover from horrific injuries, celebrated countless second chances and been incredibly lucky to work alongside an amazing team who share the same dream: that one day, no street dog should have to suffer simply because veterinary care doesn't exist.
But every single day we're reminded just how much more there is to do.
We still have to turn animals away because we simply don't have the facilities to treat them all. We work from buildings that we've long outgrown, while the demand for our services continues to grow.
It's heartbreaking. It's stressful. And it doesn't have to be this way.
So I've been wracking my brain about what to do, and instead of asking someone else to do something extraordinary, I thought I'd do it myself!
This October 2026 I'll be running from Point Pedro to Dondra – almost 600 kilometres through heat, humidity and everything Sri Lanka decides to throw at me. I can promise you one thing... I'm definitely **NOT** a runner, so this is going to bloody hurt!!
But here's the thing...
**The Dog Jog is so much bigger than my run.**
My 600km challenge is just the beginning. The Dog Jog is for anyone who wants to help build Sri Lanka's first purpose-built veterinary hospital, rehabilitation centre and veterinary training facility dedicated to street dogs.
Whether you walk a mile with your dog, run your first 5k, organise your own fundraising challenge or simply make a donation, you're part of this journey too. Every step taken, every pound raised and every person who joins us brings this dream closer to becoming a reality.
Because this has never been about me.
It's about the dogs. They're the reason I'll keep putting one foot in front of the other, even when my body's screaming at me to stop. And together, we can achieve something far greater than one person ever could.
If you'd like to be part of The Dog Jog, I'd be so incredibly grateful. Join us, cheer us on, or make a donation today. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps give thousands more street dogs the future they deserve.
Thank you for believing in this dream.
Let's do this!! (Eeeeeeeeeeek!) 🐾
