I would like to raise money for GOSH - Great Ormand Street Hospital on the back of my friends sons stay. I have spoken to Kayleigh who has very kindly written about what they went through as a family with their son Grayson and was incredibly touched I wanted to run this half marathon to raise money for this amazing hospital. Please see their below story. Grayson is now thankfully a healthy little boy thanks to the work of the fantastic staff and facilities at the hospital, this could have been a very different outcome!
On 30th October 2021 after a high temperature for a few days I noticed Graysons chest was sucking in. I rushed him to Northwick park and it transpired he had a lot of infected fluid in both lungs and was eventually diagnosed with pneumoccol. It was described to us as the wrong time the wrong place and the virus bypassed the vaccine. We were transferred to GOSH via ambulance and they scanned him and the very next day he had life saving surgery to remove all the infected tissue from his right lung. I remember signing the disclosure as "life saving surgery" and it only dawned on me then how close we had been to losing him. A few days later we started to see flecs of old Grayson returning.
We were in GOSH for 3 weeks and he missed almost two terms of school. As he was bed bound we had to work with physio's to get him walking again as had suffered muscle dystrophy and he was under GOSH'S care for a further 2 and a half years with regular check up and X-rays on his lung. He's just been signed off and is thriving.
The care we received I will never forget. They saw both me, my husband and my child in the darkest of hours. But their kindness, professionalism and compassion gave him his life back.
Whilst it's still very triggering to me and my family we are all doing much better. When Jason approached us to say he was running for GOSH, specifically Grayson I was in awe. And we will do all we can to help with fund raising where we can! They deserve it all and more! I think the people that work there, especially on the HDU ward (LEOPARD) were born to do it.
Please support our friend Jason on his run, he's going to smash it, this will be a breeze for him however every penny counts so please give where you can and support him as this means so much to us!
