Story
Thank you for supporting this cause.
For those who know me, you know I’ve had my dreadlocks for about 3½ years. I started growing them the day I began as a faculty member at LSU — so they’ve been with me through every lecture, team rounds, awkward Zoom meeting, and milestone since.
They’ve become part of my identity.
Which is exactly why I’m cutting them.
Geaux Bald is about doing something visible — and a little uncomfortable — to bring attention to families going through something far more difficult. If losing my hair for an afternoon helps raise funds and awareness, that’s an easy trade.
The McDade House provides free lodging for patients receiving care at Ochsner LSUHS – Feist-Weiller Cancer Center and for the loved ones walking that road with them. When a family is facing cancer, the last thing they should have to worry about is where they’ll sleep or how far they have to travel after a long day of treatment.
Our students lead this fundraiser every year, and I’m incredibly proud of the culture of service they’re building. If I can model even a fraction of their commitment (and maybe provide a little public entertainment in the process) I’m all in.
If you’re able, please consider donating or sharing this page. Every contribution helps keep families together during treatment… and that’s something worth going bald for.
