Story
On the 22 August I take on my next sporting challenge, this time in aid of SportInspired. I’m part of the UBS Cycling for Good (C4G) team, an employee driven charity bike ride that brings together colleagues across the firm to unite behind a common goal, bringing real, tangible and transformational benefits to charity partners like SportsInspired.
I hear you cry - but Jeremy, you do this stuff for fun, well this time it’s a little different. Over the course of five days the C4G team is going to ride from Munich, Germany to Padova, Italy, a total distance approaching 700km with 11,700 meters of climbing thrown in for good measure. Is that really a challenge? Consider this - the C4G team will cover a daily average of approximately 125km with 2,340 meters of climbing. The pro peloton in the 2025 Tour de France will cover an average of 158km with 2,450 meters of climbing per day.
The ride will go through some iconic and breathtaking scenery including the Berchtesgaden National Park, Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse, Passo Giau, and Monte Grappa. A far cry for the rugged (wet and windy) beauty of my training ground - the Rhigos and the Bwlch (incidentally, 2 of Geraint Thomas’ favourite climbs, he must have ridden them on the 1 day a year the sun is shining!).
As many of you know, exercise and sport has been my saviour over the years, for me, the health and wellbeing benefits of sport and exercise in general are huge, and for many can be a life saver. Your sponsorship of me (thanks in advance for any amount you can donate) will help SportsInspired to improve the physical & mental wellbeing of children & young people from the UK's poorest communities through sport & physical activity. Their sports-based development programmes teach essential life skills, empowering them to create lasting positive change & paving the way for a brighter future.
Please help me make this an event to remember, any donation large or small will make a difference. For me, it will be a fitting finale, the final event I will participate in as an employee. So while I focus on smashing the ride, please support me in smashing my fundraising goal.
