Story
On September 21st, 2025, I will be taking part in a skydive with my colleagues at Mencap to raise funds for a new Sensory Room at Bryn Siriol respite centre. This sensory room, once completed, will play a vital role in our quest to deliver excellent person-centred support to the individuals we serve.
Bryn Siriol is a respite service that provides a welcoming home for individuals aged 18-70 years old. Currently, we support 25 regular guests, each of whom can enjoy up to 8 weeks of respite care each year. During their stay, they engage in a variety of activities designed to feel like a holiday experience. However, our current sensory room has become unusable and needs replacing.
Having recently joined the team at Bryn Siriol, I have witnessed firsthand the positive impact that sensory activities can have on our guests with learning disabilities. We are coming together as a team to raise funds for this essential facility that will promote inclusivity and provide opportunities for fun and engaging activities within our services.
The proposed new sensory room will not only offer vital sensory support but will also be dedicated to a beloved local Mencap campaigner who sadly passed away earlier this year. Our aim is to have this facility ready in time for Mencap Cymru’s 80th anniversary in January 2026.
I kindly ask for your support in any way you can as we strive towards our target of £500 for this important cause. Together, we can create an environment where everyone feels valued and included.
