Jessica's skydive for Beat

Skydive
I work on an adult eating disorder ward, and prior to that a children's one. I've seen the impact that eating disorders cause on people's lives, both physically, psychologically, and socially. I've been part of the efforts trying to help people recover from an eating disorder, or working to help them navigate life with their eating disorder in a safe and person-centred way. But wards can only do so much, and there are far more people living with an eating disorder than those who become unwell enough to come into the service I work in, so it's vital that support is available to everybody affected by an eating disorder.
And that's what Beat offers: support for those with an eating disorder, their family and friends, and even professionals worried about individuals in their care.
I want to raise money to support this amazing charity and ensure that everyone affected by eating disorders has support available when they need it, not just when the healthcare system deems an individual unwell enough to receive support.
The thought of jumping out of a plane and trusting the person I'm strapped to with the parachute - the thing literally stopping me falling to my death - is absolutely petrifying and makes me feel sick to my stomach. And that's probably the nearest I'll get to understanding how the individuals I work with feel when I ask them to trust me and do the things that their eating disorder is screaming at them not to do.
