Hi all! My name is Jess Smith, and I am currently a third year Primary Education student at the University of Derby!

I am incredibly excited to be raising money for an amazing opportunity to travel to Nakuru, Kenya, alongside a group of fellow volunteers. During my time there, I will be working with local partner schools in a developing area of the country, helping to support and educate children, contribute to building and improving school facilities, and support the wider local community.

I will be taking part in this project in partnership with the Derby County Community Trust, with the aim of making a positive and lasting difference to the children and communities we work with. As someone training to become a teacher, the opportunity to share my passion for education in a completely different setting is something that means so much to me.

I know that this experience will be eye-opening and truly life-changing for me, both personally and in my future career as an educator. However, what makes this opportunity particularly special is the impact it can have on the children and communities we visit. By supporting their education, improving their learning environments and working alongside local communities, I hope that we can make a genuine difference to children's lives, their education and their future opportunities.
