Walk 50 miles in January
Intractable Epilepsy help children and young adults with intractable forms of epilepsy. There is an estimated 30,000 people in the UK, who do not respond to routine treatments causing them daily seizures, suffering and hospital admissions.
Some now hold private prescriptions for medicinal cannabis which massively reduces their seizures and was legalised for medical use in 2018. Like six year old Oliver who the charity recently helped maintain continued access to his prescription over Christmas.
Medicinal cannabis is sometimes the only medication that reduces, and for some it completely stops, seizures. It is not yet routinely prescribed by the NHS so families have to find up to £2,500 per month for these medications to be prescribed privately. This has become increasingly difficult if not impossible in the current cost of living crisis.
