Story
Thank you thank you thank you so much everyone who has sponsored and supported me. I'm incredibly grateful for your kindness and so pleased you have helped this brilliant charity continue its vital work supporting the families of people with cancer.
I'm exhausted and very sore, but so pleased to have seen the generosity from so many lovely people 🩷

Hello, in late Oct and Nov I’m aiming to run 500miles for Run 4 Cancer which is a specialist respite charity which organises days out and short breaks for families affected by cancer. By 2023, they’d sent 7,214 people on respite breaks and provided over 34,099 respite days! From sailing days to short breaks at UK holiday parks, they give families something to look forward to during the most difficult of times, because ‘time’ is our most precious commodity. They also make grants to UK based care institutions and support research into the positive effects of exercise (e.g. running) and how it can help both prevent cancer and assist in recovery post diagnosis.
I’m doing the 500miles in memory of one of my best friends, Paul Woodgate, who sadly died from cancer in 2020. I met Paul at university in 1994 and we: worked together as student union sabbaticals, shared a flat with in Acton, canvassed with in Staffordshire & London, watched Goran Ivanišević beat Pat Rafter at the Wimbledon finals at centre court in 2001, and chatted with about our shared loves of politics, football, beer, stand-up comedy and running.

I’ll be running 500miles in 37 days for Paul, in two sections:
Firstly, I’m running my favourite marathon on Oct 25th in Snowdonia. It’s a beautiful run and lots of fun (until the last 4miles..) which I’ve been doing annually for the last 11years.
Secondly, in November I’ll be trying (once again) to run the number of miles for each day of the month, e.g. 1mile on Nov 1st, 14miles on Nov 14th etc. I’ve attempted this a few times, inspired by Des Linden, in June 2021 when I did when I did 444miles and in November 2023 when I did 436miles. This year I’m 100% determined to get to do the full distance in Nov 2025 plus a bit more..
I would be very very grateful for any support you could give to help reach my target of raising £500 for Run 4 Cancer, in memory of my much-missed mate. .
Thank you so much, Joe x
P.S. I’ll be posting daily updates on X, Bluesky and Instagram from 25 October to 30th November #500forPaul
