Story
Rory Peck was a freelance cameraman, renowned for his courage and skill. He covered conflicts across the globe for ITN and other international broadcasters, documenting events in the former Soviet Union, Iraq, and Bosnia. In October 1993, while filming the Russian constitutional crisis in Moscow, Rory was killed in crossfire outside a television station.
The Rory Peck Trust was set up to support freelance journalists and their families who risk their lives bringing vital news stories from dangerous environments.
On Sunday 7th September, Martin Colley, Ben Haggitt, Angus Neal, and Amy Welch will take part in the inaugural News Teams Relay Race to glorify ITV News and raise money for this worthy cause.
They are “The Gazelles”, and, Lord, these four can run. Records will be set, sinews will be strained, epic poetry will be written.
Please back our magnificent athletes and this vital cause. The UN reports more conflicts today than at any time since the end of the Second World War, and the past twelve months have been the deadliest for journalists since the Committee to Protect Journalists began keeping records over thirty years ago.
The Rory Peck crisis fund is depleted. Let’s replenish it.
