Are you ready to lace up your running shoes and make a difference? But this isn't just any race—it's an opportunity to make every step count.

Story

At the end of 2021 as we were all coming out of the strange time of the pandemic, Vic my beautiful wife of 22 years found a breast lump. She was referred to the Cancer Centre at Royal Berkshire Hospital for tests and she was told that she had incurable cancer. In Vic’s case that means she has breast cancer which has already moved to other parts of her body. To us both it was traumatic news and the RBH Cancer Center not only helped us understand the diagnosis, the treatments and how life would be living with cancer. They also supported Vic in coming to terms with such life-changing news.

3 years on and Vic remains true to herself: energetic, fun, our family rock and a steadfast friend to many. Occasionally she has to rest and occasionally her immune system can’t cope and throughout those times she and we rely on the support of King Edward’s ward and the Cancer Centre at the Royal Berkshire Hospital who not only look after us but most of those who have the misfortune to live with cancer in our local community.

To show our support and help raise funds for King Edward’s ward and the Cancer Centre, our team of 10 family and friends have signed up to run the Reading Half Marathon. Every mile we run is dedicated to raising money for the amazing work they do. Between us, that’s more than 130 miles and every single one is for Vic and everyone else who benefits from the care given by those doctors and nurses.

Thank you for taking the time to read about our team and support our run to support King Edward's Ward, Royal Berkshire Cancer Centre.
