The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.

Story

The Mission: Milngavie to Fort William

At the end of September, my guide dog Max and I attempted to tackle the 96-mile West Highland Way. Navigating this trek with sight loss, Type 1 Diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, and Chronic Kidney Disease was always going to be a challenge but, it was a flare up of gastroparesis that brought things to a halt. Unfortunately I was admitted to hospital and spent a couple of days in intensive care.

We will now be doing 100 km throughout October whilst I make a full recovery.

Max is my eyes and my partner in every step, proving that disability doesn’t mean a lack of ambition.

Why Your Support Matters
